Final Fantasy vs. Megaman

"I find it rather amusing..."

date: July 23, 2003

Alright... I'll be fair. I have created both sprite and animation tweened movies, and spoken at length and in detail about the methods of correctly doing each one with experienced animators such as Legendary Frog and Misteroo here, and seeking to one day make an animated series myself that wouldn't be disgraceful to this server, see what I can learn.

Admittedly, as you seem so fond of doing, you're going to click my profile and see the horribly obsolete year-old animutation I made when I was first using flash and stupidly decided to submit to Newgrounds, and then use that as a self-praising merit to discredit anything and everything I have to say, because obviously your logical premesis are always correct, and mine are always false. As you say yourself in your profile, you try for full fairness in all your reviews! Which means you might have to boot up the two dust-choked brain cells in the lifeless void that is your head when you wake up and realize that almost everyone with more than half a brain this side of newgrounds is throwing you criticisms left and right. Why? The reason is quite simple.

Now, through my experiences with animation, I have come to a very plausible conclusion. Sprite-based movies are extremely easy to make. Yes, I've actually done this -- with more complex animation sequences and behaviors, might I add (walking/stopping, turning, along a 2-dimensional plane instead of a 1-dimensional foreground) in 3 minutes. Now, you have multiple endings, so I'll grant you... maybe 10 minutes. 20 minutes of your day absolute max, if you honestly know how to use the software you are working with.

The use of Black Mage and Mega Man are only to coast off of the severe popularity of their respective webcomics and relate it to your effortless movie. Tell me -- if I were to grade this movie fairly, exactly as you BEG users to in your own profile, would it not be fairest to compeltely ignore who the characters are and what popular franchises or works they were formerly associated with and view the movie ONLY for the actual quality level and effort put into it?

Yes. So let's analyze this.
-Sprites moving around a screen in a 2-D environment.
-Sprites that you didn't make, might I add.
-With a total of four blows exchanged before the simply 'genius' choose-your-own-ending scenario.
-With terrible music.

If 2 stick figures were moving around, hit eachother four times, and then died one of 3 ways, said movie would be blown sky high. I only think it's fair to scale the work by its effort and quality.

So, when are you going to respond telling me that you're always right because my crappy obsolete movie sucks? That obviously makes you right. Come on, I'm waiting.

Author's Response:

I did not make this to capitalize on the popularity of existing movies, i made this to learn more about the tools and how to improve my future movies. i understand you points and give you full credit for honesty i am somewhat sensative to critism. i merly respond angerly to downright isulting reviews. I do not meant to influence opionions in this way... lol well yes i do :P but that is just because like i said i am a bit touchy about my work. so be honest but not insulting and i will atleast try to make a civil and educated response

although my horible spelling and gramar may say otherwise :P

"A new approach."

submission: My Angel

I personally liked it... sometimes you don't need voice actors or text to tell a story. I think this movie's silence is its strength - it's good to see people trying new techniques in Flash MX. I felt I could relate to it somehow - you're a good artist, and I'm sure your skills are going to get you far. I can see why some people might not like it as much as I did, but it had me enchanted. Well done! Beautiful!

Rhythm And Police

"Excellent!"

submission: Rhythm And Police

This is a really well composed movie. You had a lot of new ideas that most "animutation" people don't - there's newness and innovation here. This isn't bad at all, especially considering you haven't made other movies before. Nice job!

Pichu Killer

"Neat."

submission: Pichu Killer
date: July 15, 2003

For some reason, I really, really liked that flash movie. You've gone beyond most of the sprite-based movies I've seen and included halarious things that any true internet-junkie would recognize - that meaning, it's very well catered to its audience. It's also apparent that you used more than sprites -- there are nice flash MX effects too. The animation was smooth, and the sprites animations in the later half were absolutely seamless. That all aside, the way you portray the scenario is absolutely HALARIOUS -- please make the sequel, I look forward to it, as I'm sure others do as well.

Samus and Megaman Part 2

"Woah!"

date: June 28, 2003

First of all, I must say for the whole series - The concept is really neat, and cleverly deployed! I was surprised to see some of the things that were actually uncluded. With that out of the way... Freaking awesome! The graphics are even better than the last one, and since Samus' Varia Suit is so graphically complex, I imagine it took a lot of work. Also, the visor display is almost exactly like the Metroid Prime one, which is very sweet. Kudos to you!

If there was one way to improve this work of art, I'd say increase the sound quality. However, I am aware that to keep the filesizes down, some severe sound compression has to take place, so I'm going to be pretty leniant with that. Besides, Samus' VA is neat. ... Almost sounds like Joanna Dark. Is the VA British? o_0

As far as flashes go, this is pretty high quality. It tops a lot of the stuff I see here, so I must say... way to go. ^_^

Author's Response:

I guess you didn't take a look at the credits :). Anyway, I do all the voices except Samus which I got my sister to do. She is not British, she just wanted to do a british accent so I let her. Yeah and your right about the sound, if I didn't compress it the filesize would be huge. Thanks for the good review.

Wow... I love this one. XD!
The concept was already pretty good, but you got especially creative - I was laughing my ass off here! I always wanted to do something to this effect, but never got around to it... I'm glad SOMEbody has more initiative to do these things than I do. ^_^;;

I'm definitely adding this to my favorites... oh, and the ending is to DIE for. XD ^_^;;;

Absolutely wonderful.

Les aventure du Super1337

"Hey, I liked it..."

date: January 12, 2003

Perhaps I'm just a sucker for games like this. I strongly reccomend setting the game quality to low, anyone who plays this - even if your machine is pretty good. It runs a whole lot smoother...

There was some work put into this, as evidenced by the variety of enemy attacking styles... they all had different attack styles, which is better than I was expecting. (Judging from the reviews, I thought you'd have used one type of enemy fighter or something. ;P.) And the bosses were interesting - some actually made you think. If anything, this game needs more levels... MOOOREE LEEEVVEELLLSSS!!! ... and a way to get some lives back. XP
But I suppose that's the challenge, eh? ^_^;

Anyway, not bad. Even if everyone out there running some piece of trash computer with 64 MB of RAM would care to disagree. Well done!

This has to be one of the best flash movies ever made. ^_^;

Sorry it took me so long to write a review! Much fortune upon you and your family, sir, for having graced us with this movie!

Especially that "weapons of mass destruction" scene. That's the BEST! XD

date: September 28, 2002

Genius! Simply genius! This is, and always has been, one of my favorites. In fact, this is one of the three greatest animutations (Pokey and the Ombaoojiebaseo, We Drink Ritalin, Richard Kiel) that influenced me to make my own animutation. Wonderful, simply wonderful. Don't stop making halarious, awesome animutations, sir. ^_^
